How it works

Set up in two minutes. Then just ask.

AI Backtester works inside the AI app you already use. Connect it once, and you can describe trading ideas in plain English and get real backtests back — dozens at a time.

  1. 1

    Make an account

Make a free account. Claude and ChatGPT sign you in when they connect; other apps use an API key from your account page.

  2. 2

    Connect your AI app

A connector in Claude or ChatGPT, or a command or a few lines of settings in Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf or Codex. Below, step by step.

  3. 3

    Ask in plain English

Describe a strategy. Your AI writes it, checks it and runs it; the result lands in My strategies.

Create a free account to get your key.

Step 2

Connect your AI app

Pick your app. The screen on the right shows what you’ll see.

  1. 1In Claude — claude.ai, or the Claude desktop or mobile app — open Settings → Connectors.
  2. 2Choose "Add custom connector", name it AI Backtester, and paste the address below.
  3. 3Press Connect. A window opens on aibacktester.app: sign in if asked, then Allow.
  4. 4In a chat, switch AI Backtester on from the tools menu. No key needed — revoke it any time on your account page.

The address to paste:

https://aibacktester.app/mcp

No key to copy: you sign in and approve it on aibacktester.app. Custom connectors come with some Claude plans; if you don’t see the option, use Claude Code or the config file.

Step 3

Check it’s working

Start a new chat and ask:

Your AI answers with your plan and your quota. From then on you don’t need to name the tools — describe what you want, and it picks them.

Claude
•Reading the strategy format…
•Checking rules can actually fire — 3/3 valid
•Running 3 backtests over 8,785 bars…
RSI 30/70 dip buy+2.03%sharpe 0.48
Bollinger reversion−8.30%sharpe −0.91
RSI 45/55 swing−9.59%sharpe −1.25

Only the first is worth keeping — and it still lost to simply holding BTC.

Your first backtests

Copy one into your AI app, or say it your own way — it doesn’t need special words.

What your AI can do with it

Write and check strategies

From a sentence to a strategy, checked for rules that could never fire before a backtest is spent.

Backtest

Years of real market data, fees, funding and liquidation included; a few seconds each.

Optimize

Search the numbers in a strategy, tested on data the search never saw, with the luck taken out.

Save and share

Keep results as strategies — public, or private on Pro — and fork other people’s.

Forward test

Run a strategy on every new candle from now on: the one test that can’t be fitted to the past.

Build portfolios

Combine strategies, each with an allocation of the capital, and see whether together they’re steadier than alone.

Explore

Search public results, markets and timeframes, and pull any result’s trades and equity curve.

If something’s not right

My AI app doesn’t show the tools+

Restart the app after changing its settings — most read them only when they start. In Claude Code, /mcp lists the servers and whether each connected. In Cursor, Settings → MCP shows a red dot and the error when something’s wrong.

"API key is not valid or has been revoked"+

Check the key was pasted whole, with Bearer and a space before it (Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf), and that it still shows on your account page. A key is shown only once; if it’s lost, make a new one.

"There is no PEPEUSDT market"+

Small coins trade on Binance with a lot size in front: PEPE is 1000PEPEUSDT. Your AI can search with list_symbols, and the error names the likeliest markets.

"No backtests left"+

The monthly (or weekly) quota is used up. Your account page says when it resets; nothing is charged for a refused run.

Claude Desktop says the server failed to start+

It needs Node.js installed, and a full quit and reopen after editing the config. Check the JSON is valid — a missing comma is the usual cause.

Still stuck? Write to support@aibacktester.app.

How the numbers are made

Fills, fees, funding, liquidation, and why every assumption is the less flattering one.
